Word on the street is that Microsoft is planning to do away with Lumia phones and while not officially confirmed by the company itself, the recent layoffs pretty much implies it. But it seems that Microsoft has one last device to round up their acquisition of Nokia's mobile division in 2014. Enter the Nokia 216 which is a feature phone that is designed like phones from yesteryear.

Boxy design, rounded buttons, Nokia branding and most importantly, FM radio. That's the nokia 216 in a nutshell.

This new Nokia 216 handset from Microsoft is not be mistaken from the Nokia company that plans to make a comeback to the smartphone market with an Android phone. But beyond that, this new feature phone comes with all the bells and whistles that you would expect from such a phone. The Nokia 216 is capable of storing upto 2,000 contacts and has a 24 day standby time.

In addition to that, Microsoft also topped up this phone with two VGA cameras paired with LED flash units on the front and back. Microsoft will begin selling the Nokia 216 in India by October 26 for US$ 37 (~MYR 150)

In line with this morning's announcement by Nokia that HMD Mobile will acquire the rights to produce Nokia branded mobile devices, Microsoft has revealed that they will be selling their feature phone business acquired alongside the Nokia acquisition to Foxconn for $350 million. This news is not much of a surprise as Microsoft announced earlier this year that they will be only producing a couple of Lumia phones a year coupled with the fact that Microsoft is still working on making Windows 10 Mobile stable.

Once the deal with Foxconn closes, Microsoft will put their focus on producing Windows 10 Mobile devices. It is still unclear is Microsoft plans to continue the Lumia line they inherited from Nokia but it does fuel the rumor that the much anticipated Surface Phone is nearly here. Just a little recap, Microsoft's last feature phone was the Nokia 230.

Expect Nokia to come back in full force after everything settles down and that Surface Phone is coming.

After quite a number of months being in the rumour mills, today Microsoft is formally announcing the Microsoft Lumia 650 which according to credible reports will be the last Lumia phone from Microsoft as the company moves it's mobile business to the Surface brand. Nothing is confirmed at this point, so take it with a grain of salt. But, as for the Lumia 650 itself, this device is priced at US$ 199 (~ RM 822) and will go on sale in Europe on February 18.

As expected, the Lumia 650 comes with a metal frame paired up with a white or black polycarbonate back. And of course, the Lumia 650 comes loaded with Microsoft's new Windows 10 Mobile OS and joins the likes of the Lumia 550 and Lumia 950 series. Similar to the Lumia 550 launch, it seems that Microsoft is targeting the Lumia 650 for enterprise users than actual consumers.

Expect to see the Lumia 650 launch in Malaysia sometime soon and the device will be available in Dual SIM variants which will likely be the one coming to Malaysia. Learn more about the availability of the Lumia 650 here in Malaysia here

It is January already and Microsoft has yet to announce any concrete plans as to when the Windows 10 update will be rolling out to existing Lumias running Windows Phone 8.1. The update might not be here but an affordable option to try Microsoft's latest smartphone OS, the Lumia 550 is now available in Malaysia for a not to high price of RM 259.

The Microsoft Lumia 550 was spotted during the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL launch last month and back then it was exclusive to Digi business users but starting today (January 15), the Lumia 550 is available to everyone for only RM 559 inclusive of GST through Microsoft Authorized Resellers across the country.

Beyond the affordable price, the Lumia 550 is a pretty solid smartphone that runs the latest Windows 10 Mobile software and supports 4G LTE in Malaysia. The only downside of the Lumia 550 is it's not so perfect Snapdragon 210 CPU that is quad core but runs at only 1.1GHz but that should't be a problem for Windows 10 phones as the UI uses resources pretty efficiently. Alongside the Lumia 550, Microsoft Malaysia is also announcing the availability of the Nokia 230 Dual SIM which is a series 40 feature phone that comes with a premium metal design and costs only RM 269. The Nokia 230 isn't super rich in features compared to the Lumia 550 but it does have an amazing 23 hours of talktime.

In October, Microsoft officially announced the Surface Book which was the company's first laptop. Not to be overshadowed by the Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge, the equally impressive Lumia 950 series was also announced during that event. While the Surface Book will not be arriving to Malaysia anytime soon, the Surface Pro 4 is now available to buy through Microsoft re sellers throughout Malaysia but stock is limited.

Sorry for the cheezy and somewhat non-descript intro. Microsoft Lumia Malaysia has just opened up a competition on their Facebook page whereby they will be giving out 20 passes to the Lumia 950 series launch party happening on 15 December in Bukit Bintang. All you have to do is to describe your undivided love towards the Lumia 950 (complete the following sentence) “I love the Lumia 950 and 950 XL as much as…!”

The possibilities are endless with this and make sure you check out the comments section before posting to avoid being a copycat. Just recently, Microsoft made both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL available in select countries and they will be coming to Malaysia in December. But, Microsoft Mobile (formerly Nokia) is not all about smartphones as the big chunk of their device sales are on basic phones which are designed specifically to connect people.

Following the footsteps of the Lumia 950 series, the new Nokia 230 and Nokia 230 Dual SIM comes in two monochromatic colors, white and black. With a sandblasted aluminum back paired with a dual toned color scheme, Microsoft's new basic phone looks strikingly premium compared to the polycarbonate design of the new Windows 10 Lumias and yes,

Even with this premium look and feel, Microsoft didn't do away with the amazing standby time as the Nokia 230 still comes with up to 27 days of standby time for the single SIM model and up to 22 days for the dual SIM variant. That's not all, the measly 1,200mAh battery in today's standard is capable of up to 23 hours of talk time.

The Nokia 230 is not just designed to take calls, it's 2.8" QVGA display enables it to transform into a selfie camera, a camera, a web browser, a device to access Facebook, and many more internet applications. Nokia 230 still runs on Nokia's Series 30+ operating system and users will be able to download both apps and games through the dedicated app store.

At a price of US$ 55 (~MYR 232) excluding taxes and subsidies, the Nokia 230 single and Dual SIM variants will be made available in countries in India, Asia and the Middle East. Did I also mention that the Nokia 230 also doubles as a handy flashlight and the front 2MP camera is also assisted with an LED flash. Pretty awesome Nokia memories with the flashlight feature.

Last month we saw quite a substantial amount of information about Microsoft's upcoming flagship Lumia phone, besides hearing about the specifications and the look and feel of the device, the guys over at Windows Central also made a mock up design based on the information at hand.

Well, it looks like the wait is over as here we have a couple of live images of the Lumia 950 XL itself (codenamed Cityman). On the front of the device, there's the new Microsoft branding and as described, this prototype device also comes with on screen keys rather than the capacitive buttons which we're used to seeing on flagship Lumia devices.

The source also showed images of the new reversible USB Type-C connector which will be present on the Lumia 950 XL and the image below also clearly shows the triple LED array on the back. Besides that, there's also a couple of screenshot included in the mix which shows the device being powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor, a QHD resolutions display, some new gestures and support for slo-mo video.

All in all, this looks pretty darn accurate to what we already know and while the actual device might not look exactly like this, but it's a nice teaser for what's in store in the coming months. Microsoft is expected to officially launch the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL before the holiday season and these flagship Lumia devices will be among the first to run Windows 10 Mobile out of the box.

Windows 10 on the desktop has been shipped already and now the focus in on Microsoft's new smartphone mobile operating system called Windows 10 Mobile. While there in no word as to when Windows 10 Mobile will be launching, Microsoft has just outright confirmed the first devices to get the new software package.

Just remember that Microsoft says that every Lumia capable of running Windows Phone 8.1 will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile. But this list of devices confirmed by Neowin will be the first to get the upgrade when it becomes available.

The list if pretty clear and all the low end Microsoft branded devices starting from the Lumia 535 all the way to the recent Lumia 640 XL will be part of the first way. Besides that, the Nokia branded Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 will also be part of the first 10 devices to receive Windows 10 Mobile.

Interestingly, the giant Lumia 1520 isn't included in the list but nevertheless, this is just the first wave and other Lumias will subsequently receive the update. The full list of devices is as below:

Next week, Microsoft will be hitting the release button for the desktop version of Windows 10 and after that, it will be full steam ahead for other version of Windows 10 like the one for smartphones. We're not exactly sure when Microsoft will be releasing Windows 10 Mobile but it looks like it'll happen before the holiday season as the current preview build already comes with most of the quoted features.

That means that the new smartphones are coming and Microsoft has previously confirmed during their Partners Conference that flagship Lumia devices are coming real soon. Just recently a lot of news about Microsoft's new high end Lumia smartphones surfaced and today's renders shows what looks like the flagship Windows 10 Mobile smartphone.

Allegedly called the Lumia 950 XL and codenamed Cityman, this device will have all the bells and whistles a flagship Android smartphone would have. I am not going to talk too much about the specifications as this article is dedicated to the look of the Lumia 950 XL.

According to Windows Central, these Lumia 950 XL renders are based on actual insider information and the insider has confirmed that these renders look exactly like the real deal. The three color options are portrayed in this HD render and as you can see, the new Microsoft Lumia branding is on the back of the device.

Yes, the Lumia 950 XL will come with a Pureview camera and also a triple LED flash. The boxy design is reminiscent of the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL and given that the Lumia 950 XL is expected to be quite thin (7-8mm), the sharp edges will aid in gripping the device.

If all goes well, we should see the Lumia 950 XL be announced by September with other Windows 10 Mobile devices in tow too.

After nearly three months of waiting, Microsoft Malaysia is finally introducing the Lumia 640 XL with LTE connectivity. Previously, the Lumia 640 XL was only available in 3G options but starting today, buyers will be able to get 4G LTE speeds on the Lumia 640 XL for only RM 70 more.

As for the specifications, both the 3G and 4G LTE models have identical specifications which include a 5.7" HD display, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage and a 13MP rear camera with Zeiss lens. Do note that the Lumia 640 XL LTE model available in Malaysia is the single SIM variant and not the Dual SIM variant.

Besides that, the 2015 Nokia 105 which was announced last month is now finally available in Malaysia. In Malaysia, we will be getting the Nokia 105 Dual SIM which is just as awesome as the single SIM version but with 2 SIM card slots.

You might not be impressed with the quoted 1.45" 16-bit HighColor display but the quote 35 day standby time from the 800mAh battery is just unheard of from the smartphone world today. Besides the impressive standby time, Microsoft also quotes that the new Nokia 105 come with Snake Xenzia and Bubble Bash 2. It's also worth noting that the Nokia 105 can store up to 2000 contacts.

Both the Lumia 640 XL LTE and 2015 Nokia 105 Dual SIM will be available through Microsoft (Nokia) stores throughout Malaysia starting today. The Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM is priced at RM 999 inclusive of GST and the 2015 Nokia 105 Dual SIM will go for RM 89 inclusive of GST.

Samsung might be planning to announce the Galaxy Note 5 weeks ahead of IFA 2015, but it looks like Microsoft plans to take the center stage during Europe's biggest electronics trade show to announce Windows 10 devices. Although smartphones were not specifically called out, it's pretty self-explained as IFA has always been a place for mobile devices rather than PCs.

Just last week, Microsoft revealed that they will be streamlining their product lineup into a more narrow focused approach with only 1-2 devices for the 3 categories (entry level, enterprise, high end) they're aiming at.

So, it's clear that we might very well only see 2-3 devices being announced at IFA 2015. At this point, nothing is solid about the progress of Windows 10 Mobile, the software is still pretty much not stable at the moment but the pace is about to ramp up shortly after Windows 10 for the desktop hits users on July 29.

Also, to add up to the big speculation about upcoming Lumia devices running Windows 10 Mobile, Terry Myerson briefly teased the crowd during his keynote at Microsoft's annual partners conference this morning.

Microsoft's keynote during IFA 2015 will see Nick Parker, VP of Microsoft's OEM division to deliver a keynote entitled "Windows 10 Lights up new devices". The keynote will feature introductions to new Windows 10 2-in-1 devices, premium notebooks, gaming devices and also AIO devices.

So at this point, the introduction of new Lumia devices are still hanging about the clouds but there is potential that new Lumia Windows 10 devices will make an appearance during IFA 2015 which is happening this September. During a demo at Microsoft's annual partner's conference earlier today, Bryan Roper from the Windows Product Management team demoed several key Windows 10 features to the partners. Besides showing that Windows 10 on the desktop looks very familiar to previous version of Windows, he also slipped in a demo that has to do with Windows 10 Mobile.

Whilst holding up a Lumia 930 connected to some desktop peripherals like a monitor, keyboard and mouse, Bryan showed on stage how Continuum will allow the user to be productive with just the phone.

The revelation here however is Microsoft said back in Build 2015 that continuum requires new hardware and existing devices will not be able to take advantage of this new software feature. Back then, the on stage demo was done through a precise simulation but the demo today was clearly interactive and Bryan didn't mention anything about this being a simulation.

But, whatever this might turn out to be, that might very well be a very fluid simulation or Microsoft was just running some test code on the Lumia 930 which made it work for the purpose of the demo.

While it's highly unlikely that existing Lumia devices will support this feature without facing any issues, this is just another hopeful story that older devices will get a feature rich version of Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft is expected to unveil flagship devices sporting this continuum feature in the Fall alongside the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile (the complete version that is).

This morning, Satya Nadella sent out a memo to employees about a change in the company's senior leadership team and the standout personality to leave the company is no other than Stephen Elop which has just reconciled with his job at Microsoft just about a year ago when Microsoft completed it's acquisition of Nokia's mobile division.

You might've heard that Stephen Elop has left Microsoft before he joined Nokia to become it's CEO and the sack from Microsoft this time around means that Elop has potential of being yet another company's CEO. What he'll be doing in the future is still unsure but his Devices division in Microsoft is now an empty spot.

For that, Microsoft is assigning, Terry Myerson as the head of both Windows and Devices division in Microsoft which could possibly mean better communication between the two separate division. As Terry Myerson takes up his added role leading Microsoft's senior leadership team, the company now has 12 EVPs in total running the company.

Following a confirmation by Gabe Aul on Twitter, today Microsoft is releasing a brand new Windows 10 Mobile build for Fast ring users. Being the third public build that Microsoft is releasing for phones, the build number is now Build 10136. However, this build will apparently be exclusive to users who opt in for Fast ring updates and due to an update bug, users who are on Build 10080 will need to revert back to Windows Phone 8.1 to get Build 10136.

Coming out nearly 2 months since the last build for phone was released, Build 10134 addresses a lot of bugs and Microsoft has reworked a lot of things to improve the UI elements as well as making things snappier. Cortana now looks a lot like how the Cortana on Windows 10 (desktop) looks like and besides that, the photos app has been improved with stability features and UI refinements.

Finally, there is also a new feature being implemented in Build 10136 which improves accessibility of devices larger than 5-inches. By double tapping the windows button, the start screen for supported devices will drop down enabling users to access content on the upper part of the screen. This feature is identical to the iPhone 6's Reachability feature.

All this year, Microsoft has been betting big on mid range devices while keeping all the flagship grade hardware for later this year with Windows 10. Announced back in April, the Lumia 540 Dual SIM is finally coming to Malaysia this Friday (June 19). If you are keeping track, this is the 7th Microsoft branded device, the first being the Lumia 535.

As expected, the pricing for the Lumia 540 Dual SIM isn't too far from the $149 RRP Microsoft quoted back in April. The RM 569 price of the Lumia 540 Dual SIM in Malaysia is inclusive of GST and it will come in 4 glossy colors: white, black, cyan and orange.

You can check out the specs of the Lumia 540 Dual SIM below and as expected, this device alongside all Lumia WP8.1 devices will be receiving the Windows 10 update later this year. Microsoft Malaysia will begin offering the Lumia 540 Dual SIM in authorized Microsoft stores and Nokia stores starting this Friday (June 19).

Microsoft acquired Nokia's mobile phone division last year and ever since then, they have been inheriting Nokia's business and also products. From device rebrands to store rebrands, it looks like Microsoft has just revised Nokia's colorful power banks with the Microsoft logo.

These new power banks from Microsoft are nothing special, they bear the Microsoft branding and features dual USB outputs which can be used to recharge devices at the same time. The DC-32 (5,200mAh), DC-33 (9,000mAh) and DC-44 (12,000mAh) all have varying capacities and besides the LED array on the sides, there's nothing glowing about these power banks.

Justifying the somewhat over-priced nature of these power banks, Microsoft is also including a AC-60 wall adapter which according to Microsoft will recharge the DC-32 in 160 minutes, the DC-33 in 280 minutes and the largest DC-44 in 380 minutes. As for pricing the 5,000mAh DC-32 power bank will cost $35 (~ RM 131), $45 (~ RM 168) for the DC-33 and $55 (~ RM 205) for the DC-34.

When you compare these to the cheaply price Xiaomi Mi Power banks in Malaysia, Microsoft's answer for more power is definitely a premium price. But whether it'll actually make it to our shores is yet to be known but Microsoft says these power banks will roll out in select regions in the coming weeks.

Earlier this month, Microsoft Malaysia officially launched the first Microsoft Authorized Reseller in Suria KLCC and it looks like the momentum is continuing. They have just announced that the second Microsoft Authorized Resller will be opening this Saturday (23 May) and it'll be at Sunway Pyramid.

In case you don't know, Microsoft is currently working on transforming nearly 15,000 Nokia stores worldwide into Microsoft branded stores. Malaysia is probably one of the first countries to see this groundbreaking shift and by the end of the year, there'll be 39 Microsoft branded stores throughout the country.

As for the launch of the new Microsoft Authorized Resller in Sunway Pyramid, it'll start at 11am and visitors will be able to try out the new devices from Microsoft as well as earning some extras when purchasing a new device on that day. Probably the best deal of the day is the free Surface Pro 3 Type cover with the purchase of the Surface Pro 3. This offer will be valid throughout the day so if you're planning to get a new laptop, consider buying it this Saturday.

The most interesting bit is that Microsoft will be installing Windows 10 Insider Preview on some Surface Pro 3's (presumably?) and these devices will be in store for customer to try out. Besides that, there will be a dedicated representative to answer any questions you have on Windows 10. So, if you want to give Windows 10 a try, this is the golden opportunity to give it a try.

Over the past months, Microsoft has been providing users with consistent flow of updates for Windows 10 and the company plans to keep it that way across the device lineup. In an apparent confirmation with a Microsoft spokesperson, ZDNET confirms that Microsoft will be controlling the updates for Windows 10 Mobile including the ones for enterprise users.

If you're not familiar with the current state for Windows Phone 8/8.1 updates, it's quite bad. Updates roll out in stages which cover several regions at a time and carrier branded devices will often times get the updates even later.

Microsoft has somewhat solved this problem by introducing the Windows Insider program which allows any Windows Phone user to download a just released update without any restrictions. Sounds all that good but not everyone turns on this feature as it does boggle down some carrier specific features and does not include specifics for any given device.

So, with Windows 10 Mobile any device running Microsoft's Windows 10 OS for the phone will be receiving a new software update the day it comes out. This is something like on iOS and ultimately this will definitely please Windows 10 Mobile users and thus preventing fragmentation across the board.

However, the catch is that your device must be running Windows 10 Mobile for this continuous stream of updates. This means that you'll need to wait till your region or carrier releases the Windows 10 Mobile update for your device. Just a refresher, Windows 10 Mobile will be available to all Windows Phone 8.1 devices and it'll be released in the fall in time for the holiday season.

Just yesterday, Microsoft revealed that they'll be officially calling Windows 10 for phones as Windows 10 Mobile. Building up that momentum, today the Windows Insider team released a brand new build which showcases quite a number of core Windows 10 experiences. The previous two builds only showed changes to the start screen and several applications but Build 10080 for phones included lots of new apps and features.

First off, in addition to supporting the existing devices from Build 10052, this new build adds support for the new Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, the Lumia 930/Icon and also the HTC One M8 for Windows which is the first non-lumia to get the taste of Windows 10. On a side note, Build 10080 for phones is only currently available for users which opt for 'fast ring' updates.

Moving on to the feature set of this new build, as i mentioned earlier, Microsoft is implementing quite a number of Universal apps in this latest build and that includes the Music Preview app, Xbox app, Video Preview app and also a slew of Universal office apps. In addition to that, there is also a new camera app in this build which only includes simple features and Microsoft will soon bring the full feature set of the Lumia camera to this new camera app.

Finally, the single most significant update for this build is the new Store Beta app which includes a new visual update making it look identical to that of the Store on the desktop Windows 10 build.

Do note that as Windows 10 for the desktop will be launching in the Summer, but Windows 10 Mobile will only be launching during the fall in time for the holiday season. So, don't expect the rate for updates to speed up in the coming weeks.

Microsoft: Here are some known issues

We’re aware of several migration issues after upgrading to this build.

After upgrading, you may see duplicate tiles for apps like Search and Phone under All Apps.

“Pending” may show under some apps after upgrade and those apps are unresponsive. Restarting the phone will clear the pending flag and the apps should work.

All data and settings for apps installed on a SD card do not get migrated and you cannot launch these apps or install them again. Workaround is to uninstall then reinstall these apps.

The old email app will still show up after upgrade in All Apps list with “Error” text displayed and cannot be removed. This app also shows up banged out on the Start screen if it was pinned previously. It can simply be unpinned to remove.

When upgrading from Windows Phone 8.1 to this build, even if you have your cellular data connection turned on, it will get turned off during upgrade. Go to Settings > Network & wireless > Cellular and SIM to turn it back on.

VERY IMPORTANT: there is a condition in which you may never receive MMS messages. Usually when someone sends you a MMS message and your phone’s cellular data connection is turned off, you will receive a “Get message” link in the text thread from the sender, allowing you to download the message once you turn your cellular data back on. There is a bug in which this link is not received in this case and the MMS message is completely lost. To ensure MMS messages are not lost, be sure to turn cellular data on (via Settings > Network & wireless > Cellular & SIM > Data connection). This issue will occur any time your cellular data connection is turned off in this build.

If you are in a region where Cortana is enabled (US, China, UK, France, Italy, Germany, or Spain) and you have changed the default shipping language on your phone – please ensure that your region, language, and speech settings are restored to their default values before initiating the update. This is required in order to avoid a bug that will cause Cortana/Search to repeatedly crash.

After upgrade, uninstalling an app may not remove it from the All Apps list. Usually restarting your device resolves this issue.

Playback of movies and TV may fail with error 0x8004c029 in the Video Preview app. If it does, go here to learn more about how to fix it.

After upgrading, the Twitter app may crash on launch. If you uninstall and reinstall the app, it should work.

Auto-update for apps is not enabled in this build for apps installed via Store Beta. You will have to manually check for updates.

After upgrading from Build 10052, the Insider Hub still does not launch. However, if you upgrade from Windows Phone 8.1 the Insider Hub should now launch.

Today is a moment for all Nokia employees, and indeed all people who have been touched by Nokia over the years, to celebrate a truly significant milestone in the company's history; said Nokia President and CEO Rajeev Suri. Just about a year ago, Nokia concluded the sale of their mobile division to Microsoft.

Indeed, if they managed to turn around Symbian, surely enough we would see Nokia proudly celebrate their 150th anniversary today. But everything happens for a reason and the Nokia which stands tall today is a result of several transformations throughout their history. However, recent reports do note that Nokia is planning to make a comeback in 2016 after their initial success with the well built Nokia N1 tablet.

Nokia started off in Finland back in the late 19th century as a pulp milling company and soon enough during the electric and digital revolution, they morphed into a communications company which then saw the launch of Nokia mobile devices which aimed to connect everyone.

So, let's just look back at the good 'ol days when Nokia phones were just everywhere.
