Late last year, Snap Inc, the company behind the Snapchat announced Spectacles which is the company's first hardware product. Back then, the only way to get one of the Spectacles was to wait for the 'Bots' that randomly appeared in cities but as of today, the company is allowing everyone to buy a pair of Spectacles through their online store.

The price is still the same at US$ 129.99 and it is still restricted to shipping inside of the United States. If you're in the US, head over to https://www.spectacles.com/ to buy one yourself.

Apple always been had their own earphones and one of the most recent changes were made to the design of Apple earbuds. Today, alongside the announcement of the iPhone 7, Apple is introducing the next evolution of their earbuds. To accompany the iPhone 7 which does not come with the 3.5mm headphone jack, Apple is introducing their first wireless earbuds.

Enter the Apple AirPods which looks a lot like Apple's existing EarPods but the twist is that these earbuds are wireless while being intelligent. When fully charged, the AirPods will be able to stream audio from any Apple device for up to 5 hours. The case that the AirPods come in act as a wireless charging hub for the AirPods and Apple says that the case can provide up to 24 hours of battery.

But what makes Apple's new AirPods unique (and expensive) is the new Apple W1 SoC that is embedded inside the AirPods. According to Apple, this custom designed chip will enable the AirPods to intelligently switch to different Apple devices, automatically play and pause music and also automatically cancels background audio when calls are being made.

Whether or not the Apple AirPods is worth the US$ 159 (~MYR 643) price that it's going for is yet to be seen. Right now it's unsure if the AirPods will work with non-Apple devices but we'll update this article when the information about that arises.

As expected, Apple has unveiled their new iPhone during their special September 7 event where they also showed off the Apple Watch Series 2. For starters, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is not a radical change in terms of design compared to the iPhone 6/6S series. Sure, it's missing the headphone jack and the antenna lines of the back are less pronounce but that's about it in terms of visual changes.

The screen size for both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus is still the same as before and so is the resolution but Apple says that they have improved the brightness and color gamut of the iPhone 7's display for better color reproduction. In addition to improving the screen, Apple has also swapped out the physical home button on the iPhone 7 with a static one.

In practice, the new home button on the iPhone 7 works a lot like how the force touch trackpad on the 12-inch MacBook works. Instead of physically pushing a button, Apple's Taptic Engine will simulate the button press of an actual home button.

This new home button does two things. One is that it solve the age old iPhone problem of a broken home button which caused many iPhone users to resort to iOS's assistive touch software menu. Another thing is that with this new home button, Apple can more easily seal the iPhone 7 from water and dust. And yes, just like Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are capable of being submerged under water.

Also new on the iPhone 7 is a new audio setup. The removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack enables Apple to include a new stereo speaker setup on both the 7 and 7 Plus. And in case you were wondering, Apple will include a set of lightning Earpod headphones and a lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack in the box.

Apple iPhone 7 Key Specifications

— Apple A10 Fusion SoC
— 2GB RAM
— 32/128/256GB memory

— 7MP f2.2 front camera
— 1,960mAh battery
— iOS 10
— 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm
— 138g

Apple iPhone 7 Plus Key Specifications

— 5.5-inch 1080P IPS LCD display
— Apple A10 Fusion SoC
— 3GB RAM
— 32/128/256GB memory
— Dual 12MP f1.8 rear camera w/OIS
— 7MP f2.2 front camera
— 2,900mAh battery

Last but not least is the camera which is probably the biggest upgrade that the iPhone 7 is receiving. Unlike before, this time around there is a clear difference between the camera on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The regular iPhone 7 will come with a 12MP f1.8 camera that is optically stabalized and is paired alongside a Quad LED True Tone flash. It is also aided with Apple's new Image Signal Processor for better image processing.

But moving on to the iPhone 7 Plus, Apple has added a second 12MP sensor with a 56mm focal length that will do one of two things. At launch, the iPhone 7 Plus's camera will feature 2x optical zoom thanks to the dual camera setup but in the near future, Apple will be enabling the iPhone 7 Plus's dual camera setup to capture shallow depths of field (AKA Bokeh). The shallow depth of field effect is achieved by intelligent machine learning paired with the hardware available on the iPhone 7 Plus.

AFP
Apple will begin selling the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 25 different countries beginning September 16 with pre-orders beginning this Friday (September 9). The iPhone 7 will begin at US$ 649 (~MYR 2,600) and the bigger iPhone 7 Plus begins at US$ 769 (~MYR 3,100). Additionally, Apple is also expanding their iPhone upgrade program to the UK and China with the launch of the iPhone 7.

Sadly, Malaysia is not part of the first two waves of iPhone 7 launches.

iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus availability on September 16 includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US.

A couple months back, Nintendo and Niantic Labs made a splash when they launched Pokemon Go. The game has since then dwindled down from it's initial hype but today at Apple's special September 7th event, Shigeru Miyatomo (creator of Super Mario) revealed that Nintendo will be bringing Super Mario to a smartphone for the very first time.

The game is called Super Mario Run and will launch exclusively on iOS by December 2016. According to Nintendo, Super Mario Run will be (one-time) paid app and right now, the app is expected not to include any form of in-app purchases like other mobile games do.

Generally speaking, this new Super Mario Run game is a lot like the original games that were exclusive to Nintendo consoles in the past. The biggest difference is that the game has been designed to be played with one hand. In addition to that, Nintendo has also added a couple of new game modes to spice things up.

At launch, Nintendo's Super Mario Run game that features a 2.5D map will be available only on iOS devices but the company has expressed that they do have plans to bring the game to Android sometime next year.

Last year, HTC unveiled an iPhone lookalike called the HTC One A9 and today at IFA 2016, the company is at it again with their new HTC One A9s. While the name of the HTC One A9s sounds like an upgrade, it is in fact a downgrade in terms of specifications. The core design of the A9 is still present in the A9s but HTC has seemingly downgraded things like the screen and SoC.

Right now, HTC isn't talking about release dates and pricing yet but expect it to be more affordable than the US$ 499 HTC One A9 given that the A9s is less powerful in all aspects.

HTC One A9s Key Specifications

— 5-inch 720P Super LCD display
— MediaTek Helio P10 SoC
— 2/3GB RAM
— 16/32GB expandable memory
— 13MP f2.2 rear camera
— 5MP f2.8 front camera
— 2,300mAh battery
— Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
— 146.5 x 71.5 x 8mm

Just last month, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note7 and today at their IFA 2016 event, Samsung is showing off their third generation Tizen based smartwatch which will support Android phones running Android 4.4 and above (and iPhones in the near future) The biggest change that the Gear S3 is bringing to the table compared to last year's Gear S2 is a bigger display that is covered by Corning's new Gorilla Glass SR. Samsung is baking in a full color always on display with the Gear S3.

Like last year, Samsung's new Gear S3 series will have two variants, the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic. The biggest difference between the two is that the Gear S3 Frontier features LTE and a more aggressive industrial look. Both versions feature MST and NFC which enables Samsung Pay transactions and they are also IP68 water resistant. Samsung is also adding a microphone and speaker to execute various commands.

But that's not all, the company says that they have done extensive research in designing the Gear S3 and the Gear S3 Frontier is the result of the research. Additionally, Samsung has also collaborated with designers Yvan Arpa and Arik Levy to design straps and watch faces for the Gear S3.

In terms of the actual functionality of the Gear S3, the device itself will count health data like calories and sleep but it will now also track GPS data. Also, Samsung says that they have tuned the software to improve battery life and the Gear S3 will last up to 4 days on a single charge. Things like the rotating bezel and wireless charging is still present.

Right now, Samsung isn't talking about pricing but they are quoting that the Gear S3 will be available beginning October 2016. And given that Samsung is planning to continue offering the Gear S2, expect the Gear S3 to be priced higher than the current Gear S2 models.

Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Key Specifications

— 1.3-inch 360 x 360 Super AMOLED display
— Dual core 1.0GHz processor
— 768MB RAM
— 4GB memory
— Bluetooth 4.2 LE

— Tizen OS 2.3.2

Yesterday, Apple announced their third quarter results which saw declines in sales across the board especially with the iPhone. The drop in sales is likely due to the anticipated launch of the next generation iPhone in September. But despite the lackluster iPhone sales in the last three months, today Tim Cook revealed that Apple has recently sold it's 1 billionth iPhone.

While there is no indication who actually bought the billionth iPhone from Apple, it is still a big achievement for Apple. Compared to Android which hit 1 billion active users in 2014, Apple's number doesn't sound too massive. But just remember that Apple has only launched 13 iPhones since 2007 whereas Google has hundreds and thousands of Android powered devices.

To recap, the original iPhone was announced back in 9 January 2007 by Steve Jobs during Macworld 2007. From a small 3.5-inch screen paired with a single core processor all the way to the 4.7-inch screen paired with the 64-bit Apple A9 processor that lives in the current generation iPhone 6S, it is clear that Apple's smartphone has come a long way.

Apple will be celebrating the iPhone's 10th anniversary next year (in 2017) and expect to see a new iPhone this September.

"The biggest release ever", that is what Apple is calling iOS 10. Unveiled during their opening keynote for this year's WWDC developers conference, the new version of iOS simply called iOS 10 will mainly focus on underlying changes that improve upon the overall experience.

As usual, this new version of iOS will be available in the Fall alongside the release of the new iPhone but developers can try out the developer preview today and Apple will be testing out a public beta in July. You can sign up for the iOS 10 beta here

Starting from the lock screen, there is a new glance feature which displays the lock screen alongside notifications each time you pick up the device. iOS 10 comes with an updated focus on the notifications cards which propagate all throughout the operating system and Apple is also improving how 3D Touch works on iOS 10 with new interactions like being able to activate it through the lock screen.
Besides that, Apple is also opening up Siri, Apple Maps and the Messages app to developers. This new integration will enable developers to build apps for the iOS Messages app and also build Siri right into their application (with SiriKit) that will enable rich interaction between the user and the app.

Additionally, the iOS Messages app also comes with several new features that Apple borrowed from Google's two new messaging app that they unveiled during Google I/O several weeks back. Messages on iOS 10 will feature things like powerful animations that covers up the entire screen, invisible ink that allows you to share surprises, handwritten notes that can be animated, rich links and a new keyboard that features emoji prediction.
Finally, there is a new Memories feature baked into the Photos app on iOS 10 that works strikingly similar to the Google Photos app. The Memories feature will automatically group your images based on different criteria and each grouping will also be combined into a Memory Movie that can be customized with different themes.

Apple says that all these automatic grouping and any other intelligence processing is all done locally by taking advantage of the processing power of iOS devices. This technology is called Differential Privacy and Apple uses this approach to safeguard data of iOS devices.

iOS 10 will be available this Fall as a free update for iPhone 5 and later, iPad 2 and later, and iPod Touch 5th gen and later. Learn more about all the new features of iOS 10 here

Third party keyboards are an easy way to personalize and iOS device. While there are a ton of options these days, Google's new Gboard keyboard is probably the most innovative one yet. Building upon features like gesture typing and advanced auto-correct, GBoard puts a twist to the idea of a smartphone keyboard by integrating Google search directly into the keyboard.
Available exclusively for iOS devices right now, the Google search bar on the keyboard allows users to easily send google search results like a movie trailer or an address. You could also easily search for emojis. No word as to when this keyboard will be available on Android but given that Google I/O is just around the corner, expect to see it coming to Android sooner than later. Download Gboard today

iPhone SE Key Specifications

Apple is always good a creating the suspense with the invites. For the first time this year, Apple will be holding their annual Spring (March) launch event at their headquarters in Cupertino. Last year, Apple announced the arrival of the Apple Watch and the futuristic 12-inch MacBook and according to reports published in the last few months, Apple is gearing up to unveil a brand new 4-inch iPhone supposedly called the iPhone SE and a new 9.7-inch iPad that will support iPad Pro features like the Apple Pencil and the accessory port.

The Apple event will be on March 21st 10:00AM (Malaysia time: March 22nd, 2AM) and expect Apple to also talk about updates to their software platforms (especially things that have to do with encryption) and we might even see some updates to the Mac lineup to include Intel's new Skylake processors. 9To5Mac reports that the devices being announced during this event will be available by the end of March.

This weekend, the annual battle of the best android smartphone is about to begin and with that in mind, HTC is launching their One A9 in Malaysia. The so-called iPhone look-alike that was heavily leaked prior to it't announcement in September 2015 is the company's renewed approach to making android smartphones.

Argubly, HTC Malaysia has chose the wrong time to announce the arrival of the HTC One A9 in the Malaysian market. By next week, the news will be all about the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 and the fact that the HTC One A9 is essentially a mid-range device trying to replicate a flagship experience doesn't give HTC any luck here.

HTC One A9 Key Specifications:

  • 5-inch 1080P AMOLED display
  • Snapdragon 617 SoC @ 1.5GHz
  • 2/3GB of RAM
  • 16/32GB expandable memory
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • 13MP f2.0 rear camera with OIS
  • 4MP Ultrapixel front camera
  • 145.8 x 70.8 x 7.3mm (143g)
  • 2,150mAh battery

But don't get me wrong here, I am not trying to defame the HTC One A9 by any means but the timing is a little wrong. Besides getting a design scheme similar to the iPhone 6/6s, the HTC One A9 also comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow running out of the box. HTC Malaysia says the the One A9 is now available through authorized dealers throughout Malaysia and the Carbon Gray and Topaz Gold will only be available in Malaysia. But whether you ware willing to pay the RM 2,299 for this not-so flagship smartphone is is up to you.

Alongside the arrival of the camera centric ZenFone Zoom in Malaysia, Asus is sweetening up the deal by also announcing the arrival of the ZenWatch 2 which is a second generation Android Wear device announced at Computex 2015. The ZenWatch 2 in particular is not the best smartwatch out there but it has a good balance between price and what you get in terms of hardware.

Asus ZenWatch 2 Key Specifications

  • 1.63-inch or 1.45-inch AMOLED display
  • 320 x 320 or 280 x 280 resolution
  • Snapdragon 400 SoC (8026)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB memory
  • 49.6 x 40.7 x 9.5mm (700g)
  • 300/400mAh battery
  • IP67 certification

Just like all Android Wear devices, the ZenWatch 2 will also be compatible with an iPhone running iOS 7 and above in addition to supporting Android 4.3 and above devices. As for pricing, Asus Malaysia says the ZenWatch 2 starts at RM 649 and goes up to RM 899 for the fancier model with a metal strap. No official word as to when the ZenWatch 2 will be available for purchase but we'll update you on the details once it becomes available.

Well, that was a little awkward. I just completed another article about the Apple Watch and here we go again. Anyways, Apple Malaysia has just published the official pricing for all the Apple Watch models. The Apple Watch was announced in March last year and has since then risen up to become the most popular wearable device despite being late to the game.

The Apple Watch is Apple's first wearable device and the watch comes in three versions, namely the Sport, Standard and Edition. Apple has been listing the Apple Watch as a 'coming soon' device since 2015 and today, the Apple Watch will officially go on sale in Malaysia for a starting price of RM 1,559 for the most basic Apple Watch sport which also includes the limited edition red strap that is specifically for the Chinese New Year celebrations this year. You can read more about that here

But basically, the pricing for the Apple Watch is actually pretty consistent with the ones in the US as you can see in our comparison last year. If you just want to get the downright cheapest Apple Watch for your iPhone (just remember, the Apple Watch will only work with an iPhone), then you can consider getting the Apple Watch sport which goes up to RM 1,849 for the larger 42mm version. If you want the Apple Watch with the sapphire glass screen, that'll weigh you down at least RM 2,499 for the most affordable one and prices will go up to RM 5,079 depending on which strap you choose.

Finally, the most surprising inclusion is the gold plated Apple Watch Edition which starts at a whopping RM 47,000 and goes all the way up to RM 80,000 if you fancy a strap with some 18K gold on it. Additionally, you can pimp up your Apple Watch with some first party bands from Apple which start at RM 249 for the Sport band and goes up to RM 2,049 for the Link bracelet. Check out all band options and prices here and the prices for all the Apple Watch are as below

OnePlus is no stranger at stirring up some #HYPE around their products and this new accessory is exactly in line with the company's mission in promoting their line of android smartphones. At US$ 20 (~MYR 85), the new OnePlus Sandstone case is designed and build exclusively for Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. This is an interesting move by Shenzhen based OnePlus and all along we thought that Xiaomi was the only Apple wannabe, well it looks like OnePlus is the ultimate Apple fan.

The new Sandstone case is basically just a simple hard iPhone case but the twist here is that the outer shell is constructed of the same Sandstone PET material that the original OnePlus One and new OnePlus 2 is constructed out of. In the short product video above, OnePlus is hinting that iPhone users do not necessarily have a good grip of their 4.7" iPhone.

Beyond the extra grip, the OnePlus Sandstone case for iPhone also features the OnePlus logo and if you liked OnePlus and just can't leave the iPhone, this is the product for you. And no, you do not need an invite to purchase this $20 case from OnePlus and in return, you will also receive an invite to buy the OnePlus X and if you're lucky enough, you will stand a chance to get the limited edition ceramic OnePlus X.

You can pick up the new Sandstone Case for iPhone today at www.oneplus.net/oneplus-sandstone-case

The master of technology leaks have spoken and according to his sources, Apple will be unveiling the iPhone 6C alongside the iPhone 6S (and 6S Plus) in September. While Apple has not officially sent out invites for the forthcoming iPhone event, reports are already locking down on a September 9 event.

While there is not much leaks on the iPhone 6C, the ones that have surfaced on the internet show the iPhone 6C being a small device. Being sized like the iPhone 5/5S, the new colorful iPhone offering from Apple will definitely be cheaper than the mainstream iPhones but there might be a possibility that Apple will be implementing some pretty impressive hardware into the new "affordable" iPhone.

As we already saw with the new 2015 iPod Touch, Apple managed to cram in the A8 processor from the iPhone 6 into a similarly sized device. That is all that I'm able to share at the moment, stay tuned in the coming weeks ahead as more information regarding Apple's new iPhone(s) emerge.

It is no surprise that Apple is planning to release a brand new iPhone in the Fall but how will it look like? 9To5Mac has released a whole gallery of images of the upcoming iPhone 6S and given their reputable history, this is the real deal. Last year, Apple overhauled the iPhone by bumping up the size of the iPhone 5 and thus creating a 4.7" and 5.5" iPhone.

Likewise, Apple is most likely following the 'S' series tradition by keeping the same design and improving on things internally. That's exactly what we're seeing here with 9To5Mac's images of the iPhone 6S. Of course we'll bee seeing a brand new Apple processor being implemented onto the iPhone 6S but for this set of leaks, we're focusing only on the exterior aluminum shell of the iPhone 6S which indicates quite a number of changes.

Seemingly enough, the iPhone 6's design will be brought forward to it's successor, the iPhone 6S and the dimensions of both the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will be near identical than of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This means that Apple might still be retaining the 4.7" and 5.5" display for both devices but 9To5Mac says there is still a possibility that the iPhone 6S Plus might be a little compact in size.

As for the rest of the exterior, nothing much has been changes and all the ports and holes line up with the existing iPhone 6. The camera and LED flash is still in it's spot and the camera of the iPhone 6S might still protrude out but there is no indication of the reported dual camera setup. Also, Apple is still using the antenna lines on the back of the iPhone 6S which could be because of the internal wirings of the frame.

Flipping over the underside of the device, 9To5Mac notes that the mounting holes for the new iPhone 6S have been modified and that could very well be because of the new Force Touch display which Apple is planning to integrate into the iPhone 6S's display.

That's about if for what has been uncovered with these images, we're not ruling out possibilities of newer color options for the iPhone 6S but don't count on it. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 6S in September alongside the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Note 5 and also iOS 9.
