ZTE's Axon 7 is the first to support Google's Daydream VR platform
Smartphones from chinese smartphones are getting popular these days and at a launch in Beijing today, Shenzhen based ZTE unveiled their new flagship smartphone called the ZTE Axon 7. The device which will be succeeding last year's ZTE Axon comes with an upgraded design inspired by Designworks (a BMW Group Company). Why did ZTE jump from 1 to 7? With the new Axons 7, ZTE improved upon the design and they also kept the dual front facing speakers that now features Dolby Atmos certification for surround sound. That's not all, the ZTE Axon 7 is also endorsed by world-renowned pianist Lang Lang. So, you can rest assured that the Axon 7 is going to be good in the audio department.
In terms of features, the ZTE Axon 7 comes with a USB Type-C port on the bottom that will support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology and on the back, the company has included a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
On the back of the device, ZTE has swapped the dual camera setup on last year's Axon with a new 20MP sensor with an aperture of f1.8. The camera on the Axon 7 will support 4K video recording and the sensor features phase detection autofocus and OIS alongside a new camera experience that has better image processing and also manual controls.
Another big thing about the next Axon 7 is that the Axon 7 is the first device to support the new Daydream VR that Google announced last week. While the Axon 7 will be shipping with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, ZTE says that Android N will be coming to the device shortly after.
Similar to what Samsung and LG did earlier this year, ZTE is also launching their very own VR headset alongside the Axon 7. The devices will simply be called ZTE VR and the headset will take advantage of the high resolution AMOLED display and Dolby Atmos surround audio system to provide a memorable VR experience.
The ZTE Axon 7 will be available in China today in three versions (basic, standard and premium). The basic version (with 4GB RAM and 64GB memory) is priced at CN¥ 2,899 (~US$ 440 / ~MYR 1,800) and the standard version with double the storage and 6GB of RAM will cost CN¥ 3,299 (~US$ 500 / ~MYR 2,050).
Additionally, there's also the premium model which comes with 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. The biggest addition with this premium model is the inclusion of a pressure sensitive display similar to the one found on the iPhone 6S. This model in particular will arrive in China at a later date for CN¥ 4,099 (~US$ 625 / ~MYR 2,500).
ZTE says that they will begin launching the Axon 7 outside of China including the United States in June 2016. So, expect to see the ZTE Axon 7 launch in Malaysia pretty soon.
