Microsoft confirms that even pirated versions of Windows will be updated to Windows 10
Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows 7/8.1 systems and that offer will be valid only if your system is upgraded within the first year Windows 10 is released. That was enough to win the hearts of many by throwing in the free update to the latest and greatest from Microsoft.
Well now it seems that Microsoft is clarifying another matter about the update, apparently all Windows 7/8.1 systems will be able to upgrade to Windows 10. That means that regardless whether you actually bought the license for Windows or your just torrented it online, you'll be able to upgrade to Windows 10 either way.
This move is a little unexpected but what they're essentially doing is combating piracy which has been well know throughout the years. With this, i'm expecting to see the adoption rate towards windows 10 to skyrocket in the first year given all the incentives and new features coming with Windows 10.
As a recap, Windows 10 will be officially launched later this Summer in 190 countries worldwide and in the meantime do check out our article about coverage on the latest Windows 10 Technical Preview build to see what to expect when you upgrade to Windows 10 in Summer.
