Samsung unveils their new 960 series NVMe SSDs
About a year ago, Samsung showed off their record breaking 950 Pro NVMe SSD and today, the company is breaking barriers yet again by introducing their new 960 series NVMe SSDs which can clock up to 3,500 MB/s read speeds. This time around, Samsung is topping up their M.2 based SSD with up to 2TB of storage which is the highest density NVMe SSD in this form factor.
Samsung 960 Evo Key Specifications
— Samsung Polaris controller
— 250GB / 500GB / 1TB
— M.2 form factor
— M.2 form factor
— PCIe 3.0 x4
— 48-layer MLC V-NAND
— 3,200 MB/s seq read
— 1,900 MB/s seq write
All of this is thanks to Samsung's industry leading V-NAND technology which enables them to push the boundaries in terms of speed and storage in small form factor. In addition to that, these SSDs also come with Samsung's new Dynamic Thermal Guard technology that will manage the performance of the drive during heavy loads.
Samsung will begin offering both the 960 Pro and 960 Evo NVMe SSDs in October 2016. The higher end Samsung 960 Pro SSD will retail at US$ 329.99 (~MYR 1,300) for the 512GB model and goes up to US$ 1,299 (~MYR 5,300) for the largest 2TB model. The Samsung 960 Evo in the other hand will begin at US$ 129.88 (~MYR 530) for the 250GB model and goes up to $479 (~MYR 2,000) for the 1TB model. These two SSDs will come with five-year limited warranties.
