Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 821 chipset comes with a 10% performance boost
Every flagship phone Android phone released this year is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC (with the exception of the Huawei P9 that is powered by the company's own Kirin SoC). From pricey Galaxy S7 edge to the ultra-affordable OnePlus 3, the Snapdragon 820 chipset managed to do away with the problems that Qualcomm faced with last year's Snapragon 810 chipset.
But the year is not over and there are some flagship Android phones coming later this year. That is where the Snapdragon 821 SoC comes in. This new chipset from Qualcomm is not the next generation chip from Qualcomm, rather it's the follow-up to the Snapdragon 820. In terms of the numbers, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 821 will be clocked up to 2.4GHz and that equates to a 10% performance improvement to the already powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Qualcomm quotes that the Snapdragon 821 SoC will begin appearing on smartphones (like the Galaxy Note7) in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that.
