Moto X Play and Moto X Style announced, new Moto Maker options and a new 21MP camera

Alongside the refreshed 2015 Moto G, Motorola also announced a successor to their flagship smartphone, the Moto X. But this time around, things aren't so simple. There is actually two version of the Moto X, a mid-range on and a full fledged model that's worthy of the Galaxy S6 and LG G4.

Let's start with the affordable Moto X which is called the Moto X Play, the highlight feature is it's 48 hour battery life which is supported by the 3,630mAh battery and the Moto X Play is also water-resistant (not water proof like the Moto G). Besides that, the Moto X Play also comes with a slightly smaller 5.5" 1080P display with front facing stereo speakers.

Just think of the Moto X Play as a bigger 2014 Moto X with updated specs. And yes, the Moto X Play can be customized with Moto Maker.

Moving up, we have the flagship 2015 Moto X which is called the Moto X Style. In reality, the Moto X Style is a little fancier with better Moto Maker options like leather and wood back but that's not all as the Moto X Style is also a pretty serious flagship smartphone. It comes with a hexa core Snapdragon 808 CPU and a Quad HD 5.7" display on the front.

Both the Moto X Style and Moto X Play come with Motorola's new 21MP camera which has an f2.0 aperture and a host of new software enhancements. Additionally, these new Moto X's will run Android 5.0 Lollipop and will be on the list to get Android M when it comes out in the fall.

As for pricing and availability the Moto X Play will come to Europe, Latin America and Canada in August for about $300 and the Moto X Style will be made available in Europe, Latin America and North America in September through carriers. No news on when these new Moto X's will come to Asia though. But in the US, Motorola is also offering the Moto X Pure Edition which is basically just the Moto X Style which is unlocked and is yours for only $399 without any contract. It'll work with any US carrier out of the box.
