The onslaught of android flagships continue with Huawei, their new Huawei P8 and Huawei P8 Max is filled with goodness all around. From the all aluminum unibody design to the camera module with no bumps, the company has bold claims on this device. Saying that it's hands down better than the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy S6.

Huawei P8 specifications:

Jumping to all the bold claims against competitors, the Huawei P8 is not the most highest spec'd device on the market but it does have a balance between style and functionality. Remember, this is a 6.4mm smartphone we're talking about here.

The highlight of the Huawei P8 is the camera on the back, the company claims that the 13MP OIS camera on the back doesn't feature a bulge and the industry's first RGBW sensor enables it to capture DSLR quality photos. In addition to that, the P8 also has an independent image signal processor to process all kinds of things like face detection and processing low light images.

Besides that, they are also touting that the screen might not be the most highest resolution one out there but overall the form factor of the Huawei P8 boasts a higher screen to body ratio. This is mainly achieved by the side bezels being razor sharp.


Then it's the bigger Huawei P8 Max which is indeed trespassing the tablet category. It's massive 6.8" FHD display is just massive beyond belief. Even the Xperia Z Ultra is only 6.4" big. The P8 Max shares a lot with it's more compact sibling and the unibody aluminum build is also present on the P8 Max.

Probably, the biggest difference between the standard Huawei P8 and the Huawei P8 Max is the battery. The P8 Max features a gigantic 4360mAh battery and is just only 6.8mm thick.


After that, all the differences between other android flagships is in the software. The main software enhancement is called Kunckle Sense. Huawei is calling it a revolutionary new way to interact with the screen. As the name suggest, you will use your knuckle to interface the screen.

One of the examples they showed is the ability to crop the current screen you are on just by using your knuckles. This cropping features isn't revolutionary by any means but using your fingers to do it is probably a first for the industry. We'll have to wait and see if Huawei allows developers to tap into this feature to provide users with a unique app experience.


Overall, the Huawei P8 and Huawei P8 max looks to be quite compelling against current android flagships. It might not have the most beastly hardware, but the package as a whole has it's unique-ness.

The standard Huawei P8 is priced at €499 which is about RM 1,960 and the premium model is priced at €599 which is approximately RM 2,355. The bigger Huawei P8 max in the other hand will start at €549 (about RM 2,160) for the standard model and the premium model goes for €649 (about RM 2,500).

NOTE: The premium model is basically a 64GB storage option

Both the Huawei P8 and Huawei P8 max will be launching in 30 countries worldwide and thankfully Malaysia is listed as part of the first wave. Expect the prices to be a little higher than listed due to the exchange rate and inclusion of GST.
