It seems that the guys over at Facebook want you to use WhatsApp even more as they have just released a standalone application for both Windows and Mac. The new app available for download starting today for devices running Windows 8 and above and Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) will be just like the WhatsApp Web application the company released last year. According to WhatsApp, the biggest reason why users should download this dedicated app is because unlike the web version, this standalone app runs natively on the desktop and has support for native desktop notifications and better support for keyboard shortcuts.

While this new application is not a standalone service, it could very well end up being one in the future.
