The Nokia 808 Pureview Now Available
The Nokia 808 Pureview is now available to buy at Nokia retail shops in Malaysia for RM 1,899. At launch this phone will be available in black and white, the red version of the phone will be available soon. Now lets jump in to some history of the 808 Pureview. Nokia has been developing Pureview technology for 5 years, and the 808 pureview is the latest phone with the technology. Other Pureview phones before the 808 is the N8, this phone is like a beta phone for the pureview technology so it did not have full pureview capabilities. But the N8 is also an excellent cameraphone with a 12MP camera and a Xenon flash. One of the main thing when you see the 808 pureview is 41MP, the 808 actually captures photos at 38MP; Then you would think that 38MP is going to be a very big file to save, the Pureview technology uses oversampling to take 7 pixels and combining them to one perfect pixel which results in 3X lossless zoom photo mode, 4X lossless zoom in full 1080P video, 6X lossless zoom in 720P video and 12X lossless zoom in nHD video. This technology will be coming to future nokia phones. Here is the video explaining the whole story:
Now lets run down to some of the specifications of the 808 Pureview. This phone is powered by a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 with 512 megabytes of RAM. The phone comes with 16GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot which can support up to 32GB. It has a 4" Gorilla Glass screen and has a 1400 mAh battery. This phone has Nokia Belle FP1. The camera is a 41MP sensor with Carl Zeiss optics and a f/2.4 aperture all those are paired up with a Xenon flash. The phone has mini HDMI out, 3.5mm jack, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, TV-out and many more. The 808 Pureview features continuous auto focus in all shooting modes, close-up (Macro) focus, Face detection, Touch focus with easy manually selected focus point and Hyperfocal distance focus for defined depth of field, for extreme focus speed or when no reliable focus is possible due to darkness. The 808 PureView employs Dolby Headphone software to transform stereo content to surround via 3.5mm A/V jack. It also includes Dolby Digital Plus software to provide 5.1 surround sound via HDMI or DLNA. The dual softwares from Dolby are embedded into the Nokia Belle feature pack 1 OS. The 808 PureView is the first device to include the Nokia Rich Recording technology and has a frequency range between 25 Hz to around 19 KHz. The 808 PureView can capture sounds at the loudness level of 145 decibels without distortion. The two microphones, located at the top and the bottom enable ambient stereo recording. The audio encoding is done in AAC high profile, 256 kbps, 48000 Hz.
Overall i give this phone a very high rating because for the price of 1,899 you will get the performance of a DSLR with a good price and only weighs 169g. The specs on this is adequate enough to run this phone smoothly as Symbian does runs excellent in single core. If you add a few hundred more you could get a tripod stand and will be able to take videos like a Pro. Me personally i have tried it already, the photo was excellent and when it comes to video the zooming is downright awesome. Here are some sample photos took by the 808 Pureview:
